Alfa Leisureplex Group is delighted to be announced as being highly commended in the Employee Owned Rising Star of the Year Award category in the UK Employee Ownership Awards.
The awards run by the Employee Ownership Association were held at the EOA Gala Dinner on the 27 November at the Hilton Metropole Hotel Birmingham.
The awards celebrate the significant contribution employee owned businesses make to the UK economy and the Employee Owned Rising Star of the Year Award celebrates a business that is already, in its early life, becoming an effective company with a strong culture of employee ownership and commitment to engaging its workforce.
Alfa Leisureplex Group, which comprises 21 hotels and is also a tour and coach holiday operator in the UK and Europe, employs over 700 people and became employee owned 2 years ago as part of succession planning from a family owned business.
With a big drive to embed employee ownership, Alfa has seen employees vote in the first three elected employee trustees, introduce employee engagement surveys and mini surveys, a new intranet area, a program of 23 Employee Ownership roadshows and a network of 25 workplace representatives.
Following its transition to employee ownership, Alfa has seen a growth in profits which resulted in a bumper increase in the dividend paid to employee owners of 144% in its second year.
Deb Oxley, CEO of the EOA, said: “Congratulations to Alfa Leisureplex Group on being highly commended for this award.
The awards recognise the productivity, innovation and excellence driven by teams and individuals in employee owned businesses, which demonstrate how employees having a stake in the business teamed with a robust culture of transparency and employee engagement result in outstanding performance in growth and resilience.”
