Great Yarmouth welcomes Festival of Bowls
12th August 11
The opening wood will be bowled at the 66th annual Great Yarmouth Festival of Bowls on 28th August 2011 in the record breaking tournament held at the Britannia Bowling Greens.
As the biggest outdoor open bowling event in the country, it attracts more than 1800 participants competing in men’s, women’s and mixed teams for singles, pairs and triples titles over four weeks of play on the greens by the Britannia Pier. The tournament has grown consistently over the last six decades, and this year's event looks set to be no different.
Spectators really enjoy the event too with plenty of benches and seating around the arena from which to watch the day's play. Close to the ‘Golden Mile’ there is plenty more to see and do to keep everyone entertained.
Opposite the Britannia Pier and close to the Bowling Green sits the New Beach Hotel with 75 bedrooms all with central heating and bath or shower and WC. At the end of the day you can enjoy a drink in the spacious cocktail bar before heading into the magnificent restaurant. Later on you can enjoy a turn on the large dance floor or look in on the entertainment which is provided most evenings. At night the resort is illuminated and renowned for its live entertainment; why not take a stroll along the prom or catch the unique horse-drawn landaus. Whilst staying at the hotel on street parking can also be arranged at no extra charge if booked in advance.
